Cuomo’s strategists are recommending that he name a vice presidential running mate soon. Two names mentioned are Tennessee Sen. Albert Gore and Texas Sen. Lloyd Bentsen. As for timing, some of Cuomo’s men are urging him to wait until after Dec. 15 to avoid a scheduled TV debate with the other candidates.
Advisers to Cuomo’s potential rivals scoff at the notion he could run an “above it all” campaign. “Sooner or later, you have to actually get out and run,” said a strategist for one. “There ain’t no pedestal high enough,” said another.
