Inspired by the 2004 movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, the Ocho began in 2017 as a way to change up the summer’s programming list. Now with no professional sports to watch in the foreseeable future, ESPN decided to bring the channel back. This Sunday, the Ocho will replace the regular programming on ESPN2 and show 24 hours straight of some of the wildest sports imaginable.
Newsweek has compiled a list of the most interesting sports that will be shown on the Ocho.
World Axe Throwing League: 2019 World Championships
Starting at 2 a.m. ET, the Ocho will feature the 2019 World Championship of the World Axe Throwing League. According to its website, the league began after a number of axe-throwing facilities popped up across the U.S. and Canada. The league has over 100 members in 17 countries and more than 150 cities. An axe-throwing match consists of two players with 10 throws each, switching sides after five throws. Players score six points for hitting the bulls-eye; four points for second ring; three points for third ring; two points for fourth ring; one point for fifth ring; and eight points for the Killshot, which are two blue circles located in the one-point ring.
Slippery Stairs: College Tour
Airing at 8 p.m. ET, Slippery Stairs is sure to produce humor for all its viewers. In this event, contestants will race barefoot to the top of a staircase that is covered in a slippery substance, with the first person to ring the bell at the top being names the winner. The contestant’s uniforms are also coated in the slippery substance to make the competition even harder. Here contestants are allowed one “pull” per race, meaning they can pull a rival down, usually causing multiple other contestants to fall down the stairs as well.
2019 Stupid Robot Fighting League
The Stupid Robot Fighting League, which begins at 3 p.m. ET, shows two fighters operating robot puppets. “The Stupid Robot is a humanoid-shaped, life-size marionette with its joints held together with thin wire loops. Its parts are normally just hard plastic rubbish from things like toys, vacuum cleaners, small appliances, etc.,” according to the league’s website. The fighters will have two minutes to try and destroy each other’s robot, with the winner being crowned when they knock the opposing robot’s head off. The fight can also be scored by “limb count” if the robot’s head remains intact, with the robot with the most attached limbs being named the winner.
46th Annual Cherry Pit Spitting Competition
The cherry pit spitting competition, which airs at 3:30 p.m. ET, is slightly simpler than some of the other events featured on ‘The Ocho.’ The event is held at Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm in Eau Claire, Michigan, and sees which contestant can spit a cherry pit the farthest. The competition’s rules include no foreign objects allowed in mouth while spitting, cherries must be “regulation variety,” and hands must be kept below the shoulders to avoid cheek popping. The contestant who spits their cherry pit the farthest is crowned “international champ.”
2019 Jelle’s Marble Runs
Jelle’s Marble Runs began as YouTube videos, but it has hit the big screen and will be shown on the Ocho at 7:30 p.m. ET. The marble runs consist of a number of different events between a group of marbles. Some of the events include an ordinary race through a dirt track, while some others embody Olympic events such as a marble relay race.
