Wright, a junior who was the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year last season and entered this year as a unanimous preseason All-American selection, was injured in the first quarter against UTSA. It appeared to be a non-contact injury for Sporting News’ No. 2 front-seven defensive player.

He was later caught by cameras sitting on the bench with his left knee wrapped in ice.

Later Thursday night, Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports said this:

One of the nation’s most complete linebackers, Wright ranked in the top five nationally in tackles (163), tackles for loss (29), sacks (14) and forced fumbles (six). Without Wright in the lineup, UTSA was able to rally from a 14-0 deficit to trail 21-20 at halftime in Tucson. 

The severity of Wright’s injury wasn’t immediately known. A significant absence would be a huge blow to the 22nd-ranked Wildcats, who hope to contend for a Pac-12 championship.
