The right-hand glove was posted online Sunday night by Lelands Sports Memorabilia and Card Auctions with a starting bid of $81, the same as Brown’s jersey number for the Buccaneers. As of Monday afternoon, the current bid had reached over $800. The auction will end on February 12 at 10 p.m. ET.

“The glove is a tangible memento from an iconic NFL moment,” Lelands wrote in the description of the item.

The white Nike glove was recovered after an emotional scene during a Week 17 game between the Buccaneers and the New York Jets. In the middle of the third quarter, a frustrated Brown ripped off his shoulder pads, tossed his jersey toward the stands, took off his undershirt and walked off the field at MetLife Stadium.

The now-iconic meltdown effectively ended Brown’s career with the team, with coach Bruce Arians stating after the game that the wide receiver “is no longer a Buc.” Several days later, he was officially removed from the team.

After the incident, Brown claimed his emotional response was due to Arians telling him to leave the field after he said he had an injury and could not continue playing. However, Arians denied that claim, telling reporters he did not know Brown was injured and that the wide receiver simply refused to play the remainder of the game.

Last week, Brown and his attorney threatened to pursue legal action against the Buccaneers for his termination, claiming that he was defamed “by this spin that he had a mental health episode that makes him someone who’s not reliable to do a good job on the field,” according to ESPN.

Brown, 33, has had a controversial 12-season career in the NFL. He spent his first nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2019. However, due to an injury sustained during a cryotherapy session and an altercation with the team’s general manager, Brown was released by the team without playing a single game.

Brown then briefly joined the New England Patriots, but was released after just one game due to several allegations of sexual misconduct. A year later, Brown signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers, helping the team reach victory in the 2021 Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. In December, Brown was one of two Buccaneers players briefly suspended from the team for misrepresenting his COVID-19 vaccination status.

Despite his most recent controversy, Brown said earlier this month that “of course” he plans on playing in the NFL again next season, ESPN reported.

According to Lelands, the white glove being auctioned features an Oakland Raiders logo that has since been blacked out, while the outside back of the wrist band is imprinted with the word Superbad.
