That’s right. Davis was one block and three assists away from being the fifth player ever to pull off a quadruple-double in an NBA game.
Yes, all you negative types out there, the game went into double overtime — and the Pelicans lost, 118-111 — but Davis was knocking on the quadruple-double door before the end of regulation.
Davis would have joined elite company by posting double digits in four statistical categories.
The last NBA player to record a quadruple-double was the great David Robinson, who had 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 blocks for the Spurs on Feb. 17, 1994. The others in league history? A few guys named Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Robinson was 28 years old when he recorded the NBA’s last quadruple-double. Davis is only 22. He should have a lot of basketball left in his career, and he hasn’t even hit his prime.
And even though his dominant performance fell just short of quadruple-double status, Davis still posted a stat line unlike anything else in NBA history, according to The New Orleans Advocate’s Scott Kushner:
