After his victory at the Kentucky Derby, The Wynn posted American Pharoah at 2-to-1 odds (+200) to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown, with the ‘No’ side of the prop offered at -240.  There’s been more money bet on ‘No’, with Pharoah’s odds to win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes now at +240, and ‘No’ at -280.

William Hill is dealing the same Yes +240/No -280 price.

More on the Preakness: Odds and post positions | Breaking down the field

Before the Derby, William Hill opened a prop on whether any horse would win the Triple Crown, making ‘Yes’ the 7-to-1 dog and ‘No’ as the -1100 favorite. While 91 percent of the bets were placed on the ‘Yes’ side of the prop, there was about an equal amount of money wagered on both sides.  That means the bigger wagers were on ‘No.’

There have been 13 horses since Affirmed in ’78 to have won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness only to come up short – or not run at all (I’ll Have Another in 2011) – in the Belmont.

The Wynn and William Hill are also both offering matchup props for the Preakness – that is, bet one horse against another.  It is things like this that can make your Saturday more enjoyable!
