Video footage from the woman’s home in Charlotte, North Carolina, shows a man ringing the doorbell and speaking with the resident.
McCall allegedly asked the woman if she was in possession of a package that she should not have. She said she wasn’t and then closed the door. The person in the video then walked away from the home only to return a few minutes later and ask again.
At this point, McCall is accused of pushing the woman out of the way to get into her home and then locking the door behind him.
Her dog, named Conway, was still inside and she instructed him to attack McCall. In a panic after the dog lunged at him, he unlocked the door and the woman pushed him back out of the house and locked the door.
Authorities charged McCall with breaking and/or entering, eluding arrest and resisting an officer, according to a WTOC 11 report.
A neighbor of the victim, Melvin McCoy, spoke to local media and commented on the incident. He suggested that the suspect may have targeted the woman.
“Why would you be so bold to do it in daylight, he said.
“She walks her dog every day around the same time, and here he comes, back behind her. So basically, he targeted her, but he targeted the wrong one, though.”
“The safety and security of our customers is our top priority, and we’re thankful the customer is safe.”
“This incident does not represent the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages, the statement read.”
