Amid recent scandals regarding sexual harassment allegations and coronavirus-related deaths in the state’s nursing homes, only 38 percent of voters approve of Cuomo, according to a NewsNation/WPIX 11/Emerson College poll released Tuesday. Meanwhile, 48 percent of those surveyed disapproved of Cuomo. That’s a significant drop from the 71 percent approval rating the three-term governor had enjoyed based on an Emerson poll conducted in April 2020, when voters hailed Cuomo’s pandemic response actions....

The two allegations, occurring in Westchester County, are part of a series of sexual misconduct accusations against the former governor. In a statement, Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said while there was evidence of the allegations’ truth, the office could not pursue charges because of legal issues. “In both instances, my office has determined that, although the allegations and witnesses were credible, and the conduct concerning, we cannot pursue criminal charges due to the statutory requirements of the criminal laws of New York,” Rocah said....

None of the other Democratic primary candidates have been kept off the ballot over this or any other paperwork issues....

The primaries for the mayoral election—where Yang will be up at least another 32 candidates—are due to be held on June 22. The election will follow on November 2, where Bill de Blasio, the 109th mayor of New York City since 2014, will pass on the mantle. The Angels announced they have hired Maddon to replace Brad Ausmus as manager. ESPN reported Maddon, who turns 66 in February, will receive a three-year deal worth $4 million to $5 million a year. The reunion is no surprise, as Maddon spent his entire professional life in the Angels organization before moving on to manage Tampa Bay in 2006. He signed with the franchise as a minor league catcher in 1975 and held a variety of roles throughout the system before ascending to the major league coaching staff in 1994....
