Over a period of just 47 days, the researchers observed 1,652 separate explosions from the Fast Radio Burst (FRB) 121102. FRBs are short-lived bursts of radio waves first observed in 2007. The cosmic explosions that create FRBs last just one-thousandth of a second. Yet, in this incredibly short period, these explosions can release as much energy as the sun puts out in a year. The explosions observed by the team, beginning on August 29, 2019, should allow other researchers to determine the energy of all FRBs....

The team found evidence of a possible planet in the spiral galaxy Messier 51 (M51), which is around 28 million light-years from Earth. The galaxy is also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy because of its distinctive appearance. They calculated that the exoplanet could be approximately the size of Saturn, the solar system’s second-largest planet after Jupiter, and believe it is orbiting a star and a partner that is either a neutron star or a black hole....

Cooper confirmed the fatality during a Tuesday morning Good Morning America interview. Hurricane Isaias, which made landfall in North Carolina late Monday night, caused a “number of tornadoes,” storm surge flooding and left about 355,000 people without power, according to the governor. Along with the death of at least one person, multiple people were injured in Bertie County when a tornado ripped through a mobile home park. Officials dispatched a search and rescue team to the area....

By 7:48 local time, the Glendale Police Department tweeted that one person was in custody as a suspect.
